Secretary’s Report: Activities of ASHA – 2015
Counselling Centre of Association of Sacred Heart Alumni (ASHA) offers professional help to students who remain disturbed and high strung due to various problems in varied life situations. This Centre guides and counsels the youngsters helping in optimum achievement and adequate adjustment in their lives.
This Centre functions in the ASHA room in the premises of Sacred Heart Convent School, in front of the Primary Block. A team of Trained Counselors visit the ASHA centre from Monday to Saturday on appointments. Individual counseling helps the students and parents to speak out their problems, concerns troubling them, with a total confidentiality. This Counseling cell was set up in 2013 and more than 100 cases registered and counseled.
Four Counselors – Keshmira Kotwal, Anandita Mathur, Sita Gupta, and Rachel Bonerjee come on scheduled days and timings, for students and parents who seek appointments for help and guidance.
For the past few years ASHA has been organizing events as a regular feature.
DJ Nite was held on 20th February 2015. 600 students, ex students & teachers danced to the music of DJ Mukhtar.
For the 7th year in succession ASHA organized ‘Summer Camp’- a special programme for students of Std. III- V on 2nd & 3rd May, 2015 as soon as school closed after final exams. 100 students spent 2 days full of enjoyment & learning and went back clamoring for more.
Udaan is another Annual feature- through which children of project schools are provided an opportunity to showcase their talents. 13 schools participated in Udaan held on 21st September 2015. The winners were awarded. They once again presented their show before guests & students on 24th September, International Girl Child Day. The programme is held in the school main hall where senior classes are a witness.
Other activities: ASHA regularly supports several institutions:
Donations are given to MTMH & old age home.
Support to the Girl child: Girls from Project schools in Jamshedpur are identified & a sum of Rs. 1000/- each is given to 2 potentially bright girls from each of these schools. This year 13 schools received these scholarships.
Support to Project School: Students receive free education through the SHC Project School which runs in the school premises in the afternoon. Today ASHA will be handing over to Sister Celin Mary awards worth Rs. 1500 to honour the students on their annual day.
