Updates
During one of the committee meetings of ASHA it was decided to organize a Summer Camp for the students of SHS of classes 4-6 from 14-17th May 2007. The aim to organize such a camp was to give our children an exciting, creative and educative experience.
Activities during the camp included yoga, meditation, table-manners, crafts,puzzles, crosswords, cooking and fun games. Experts in their fields like Mr. Sarvesh Khanna, Mrs. Tara Dhar were invited to conduct the sessions.
On the concluding day the children were taken for an industrial tour to the Ice cream and Coke factory. Nearly 130 students participated in the 4 day camp. ASHA received a lot of appreciation from the management, faculty and parents.This year the Carmel Day Celebrations were also unique, for the first time ASHA and Loyola Alumni Association (LAA) came together to celebrate their Feast Day’s. The get–together was organized in the Main hall of SHCS on 21st July 2007. An Antakshari was organized by Mrs. Rupali Patel which was followed by dinner. Around 70 alumnae of both the schools graced the occasion. The evening was enjoyed by one and all.The Alumni members are involved in several social projects. One of our ongoing projects is “Education of the underprivileged Girl Child”. A function was organized in SHCS Hall on the occasion of International Girl Child Day ie 24th September, 2007 where ASHA honored 20 girls of Underprivileged families and Rs.10,000 was contributed for the education of these girls. The girls were selected from the various Project Schools like Loyola Project School, Carmel Hindi School, Lilyput DBMS school, KPS Kadma project school and KSMS project school. Mrs.Subhra Mukherjee was the Chief Guest for the occasion.On 16th October 2007, ASHA organized a DJ Dandia Nite for the recreation on the school students. Around 400 children danced to the tunes of DJ Muktar and this was a good start for their Dussehra holidays.In today ‘s world Environment is a Global concern, ASHA wanted to spread awareness among the students of SHCS hence a movie show was screened on 8th December, 2007 for classes 9-12. The Oscar award winning documentary “An Inconvenient Truth”, presented by by ex US Vice-President Al Gore, who won the Nobel Peace prize in 2007 for this campaign.On 19th Jan, 2008, as usual ASHA members visited the Meherbai Cancer Hospital and donated Rs.2000 for the treatment of the poor cancer patients.On the same day a few of the committee members visited Mother Teresa’s Old Age Home in Baradwari and gave a cheque of Rs. 1000 to the Sister in charge.Later the same day, a visit was made to Ramakrishna Mission Students Home in Mango. Notebooks, pencils and erasers were donated to the students of the hostel. The hostel has 150 rural boys who are being educated in the various schools of the mission.
