Mushy ice-breaker for noble cause
Late last evening, old boys of Loyola and the old girls of Sacred Heart Convent School came together for a fun-filled Antakshari programme at the Sacred Heart School premises.
An endeavour of the Association of Sacred Heart Alumna (ASHA) and Loyola Alumni Association (LAA), the show was aimed to break the ice between the two associations, and join hands for fruitful ventures ahead.
Fittingly, the theme for the evening was “Back to School”. The 130-odd alumni members who came in were divided into four teams named “Kindergarten”, “Primary”, “High school” and “Plus 2”.
“This was to give old students a back-to-campus feel. The two schools have shared a sweet relationship over the years,” said Roopali Patel, joint secretary of ASHA. “The spirit was just as coquettish as it would have been in the high school days,” she added.
The four rounds were called periods, and were based on classroom activities like a drawing test or quizzes based on hit Indian film songs.
“The primary team bagged the first place with their unbeatable enthusiasm. We also tried to make the rounds special with a live orchestra,” said Patel.
Pratim Banerjee, former secretary of LAA, felt his school days were back. “It was as though we were back in time, chasing the pretty ladies of the girls’ school. We always scaled the Sacred Heart walls during our school days. Today, for the first time we found the gates open for us! Many of us came with our spouses, all Sacred Heart ex-students,” said Banerjee.
However, the show had its serious purpose. Sharad Singh, secretary of LAA said: “ASHA is good at raising revenue through cultural shows and LAA’s strength lies in its ability to work on social projects. We are trying to get the two alumni associations to come together to use their expertise and plough funds into the social projects.”
